MR. Stepanek is really what got me invalved with the MDA. before I heard about him, I didn't even know that there was such a thing as muscular dystrophy! let alone that there is 42 differant forms! so you see, just how much he inspires me!
how much he inspired thousands around the world
went on an internet explore
Located the following writing by: Mattie Stepanek
FOR OUR WORLD
We need to stop.
Just stop.
Stop for a moment.
Before anybody
Says or does anything
That may hurt anyone else.
We need to be silent.
Just silent.
Silent for a moment.
Before we forever lose
The blessing of songs
That grow in our hearts.
We need to notice.
Just notice.
Notice for a moment.
Before the future slips away
Into ashes and dust of humility.
Stop, be silent, and notice.
In so many ways, we are the same.
Our differences are unique treasures.
We have, we are, a mosaic of gifts
To nurture, to offer, to accept.
We need to be.
Just be.
Be for a moment.
Kind and gentle, innocent and trusting,
Like children and lambs,
Never judging or vengeful
Like the judging and vengeful.
And now, let us pray,
Differently, yet together,
Before there is no earth, no life,
No chance for peace.

see what I mean? read that poem then sit there for a moment and reflect on it. try and catch the meaning of it. see what I'm saying? thank you for posting that!
Must admit I had never heard of Mr. Stepanek until now, but that poem says so much.
Thanks for opening my eyes so to speak, I'll definitely do more research on him.
And, his death is a loss to all of us.

It would be even more compelling if someone could find a link to him actually reading it, and post it here. He was no ordinary child, I can tell you that much.
How do you post links though? if I knew just how to do it then I would in a heartbeat!
don't know HtMl, sorry, First you have to find an actual link on a web page to the audio of him reading the poem.
if anyone could please help post a link, I would aprishate it! thank you.
This is off topic but, you asked.
First, find a web page that you want to link to, say you want to link to this topic in another topic.
The url for this topic is
http://www.zonebbs.com/boards.php?t=13920.
So, in your post you use the < and > signs to tell the system that you are talking html, not english.
So you would say:
link to this page
Which looks like this:
Links to this page.
Hope this helps.
Bob
Jesus Christ, I hate the preview before posting function.
I tried to say,
you would type:
<a href="http://www.zonebbs.com/boards.php?t=13920>links to this page</a>
You wou
um ... could someone save me or this topic's creator the headache, and find a link to the audio, please?
I also loved matty's poetry.
He especially touched my heart as well, as I , had a brother pass away from complications of mmuscular distrophy.
I remember when his mother talked of her goodbye to him.
She spoke how lucky she was, she was given the opportunity to hold him for hours after his passing, to say all she'd hadn't been able to say before he'd died.
I found myself wishing I'd been given the same chance, but somehow I'd like to believe my brother knows without my having to say a word.

I give you mine, as well. Here is another poem by Mattie, that is featured in reflections of a peacemaker, which was published after he passed away.
Hush ...
Whisper Earth's name, in a smile or a sigh,
Whisper Earth's name ...
Await a reply.
Whisper life's name, with a breath of peace,
Whisper life's name ...
Let hope never cease.
Whisper your name, feel the echo of your voice.
Whisper your name ...
The silhouette of your choice.
Whisper god's name, in truth's joy, or truth's sorrow,
Whisper god's name ...
in a prayer for tomorrow.

one more short one
Metaphor Lesson, part forteen
Often, my imagination
Is a rapidly spreading fire,
Consuming page after page
Of my personal Journal.

oh wow... those are deep! thanks ninfodora!
you're welcome
Well, it took a while, but I have found a link to Mattie reading a poem that was posted previously on this board. Enjoy! I hope this works.
Listen Listen to Mattie read this poem
guess not. Oh, well.
you tried. that's all that counts.
Something I wrote that reminds me of him. I don't have any of his writings but i too write.
I had a dream
Of a life
Of a light
That could not go dark.
Love is magic,
If you believe
You can make anything
Become reality.
Open your eyes
And stare in wonder
At the beauty of life
And the beauty of dreams.
Open your eyes
See those who rise
From fallen life
To make dreams come true.
In the hearts of many
There is a light,
Bring it to life,
Bring it to life.
I was just reading this and thought of that... I hadn't written that beforehand, that was straight from the heart and mind. I'll have to go look for his poetry though, and paste some of it on here.
Wow. It's amazing how inspiring one person can be, especially one so young. I heard of Mattie when he was still living, and had the pleasure of watching him on a few shows. I knew he was special and felt saddened when he died. I truly believe he was put on this Earth for a reason and his words will probably outlive all of us if people continue to read, and hopefully, to appreciate them. I'm a little passed idealism like peace on Earth, but even so, there are times when I could listen to something that beautiful and get swept away for the moment. But just because some of these things are ideals, that doesn't mean that we can't try to be better people or try to make those around us happy. On another note, why not just post the link without worrying about html, like some of the other ones here. Then, we could copy and paste it into our browsers and it'll come up and we could hear him.
Shall I quote a song?
If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
We'd see the day when nobody died...
dude who wrote that song first you'd have to get rid of all the poisonous crap and weird stuff and what not before you managed all that, and the day when nobody died.
You think like me. *smile*
I never knew that there were so many people who liked Mattie Stepanek, and even heard of him for that matter. he is one of the reasons I do what I do for the MDA, he inspires me so much. I only wish I had the honor of meeting such a wonderful kid.
We can keep his message of hope and peace alive.
Maybe so but this world is spinning out of control and it will take the greatest miracle that ever was and ever will be to make those whose minds are blinded to see and open their minds.
Well, as much as I am a peaceful person, I am not a kid, and know it can not possibly happen. Being all peace is almost impossible. I debate about piece, but for the world to be all piece is impossible. Somethings will never die away. Prejudice, racism, sexism, people against other religions except theirs, and other believes will always remain. No, I actually hate them, but for them to completely deplete itself from the face of earth is impossible. As much as I admire this kid, and his things, he'll never be that much to me.
Ilianen el marilin! Awaken the magic! Nothing is impossible. Everything is real and unreal. Believe, and what you believe will be. The sky isn't the limis, infinity is the limit. Okay, done with that psychotic moment of enlightenment.
Have you been living on the bottom of the lake there? We can wish for many things, the whole world to love all others, peace, and many many more things. Will some of these out of the box wishes ever come true? Very very unlikely. Maybe a little bit of a chance, but not much. Don't get me wrong, I love piece and my words of wisdom say It's hard but never impossible. Some things just are not gonna happen, and you'll have to except it. I mean, can you wish for a fish to marry your dog. Will that instantly or even come true? No, because two species could never mix.
